An evening with the Leonardo DaVinci of Cakes
We were fortunate enough to get involved for the second year with our friends (and event planners) Emily Myers Garner, Shanna Lumpkin, and Kendall Poole on their latest event The Wedding. This year the feature of the hip and funky wedding planning event debuted one of the world’s most renowned and respected cake decorators, Mrs. Sylvia Weinstock.
The incredible Sylvia Weinstock dazzled the audience with a slide show showcasing her uniquely beautiful and sometimes gravity-defying cakes. She was quick to point out that she and her team are a group of polite professionals with an eye for perfectionism – AND IT SHOWS! Just the mention of buttercream icing always gets my attention, so when she pointed out that ALL of her cakes are iced with buttercream made from 100% butterfat icing I was 100% in! It is hard to believe in a world of fondant cakes that there are still pros out there that can ice a cake with buttercream with absolutely NO imperfections, however, Mrs. Weinstock and her team make it look easy! Hats off to you and your team, Mrs. Weinstock! BTW, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE those signature glasses!
Mrs. Weinstock wasn’t the only talent around this weekend – the event’s focus is on presenting local wedding talent to the Metro area’s future brides. The Friday night Cakes and Cocktails event showcased the lighting talent of Stephen Barnette of Davaine Lighting, food and flowers by the endlessly talented Wendy Putt with Fresh Cut Catering & Floral, delish wine and Wedding Cake Martinis from the gang at Vintage Wine Market in Madison, and completely gorgeous cakes by The Cake Diva and Cakes by Iris (not to mention great pics from my honeypie Brian Hull with Hull Portraits).
Emily, Shanna, and Kendall hit a home run by hosting this event at The South nestled right in the heart of Dowtown Jackson. If Brian and I were to do it all over again I would be itchin’ to have my reception there – so beautiful! I ran into so many people in the industry that I admire on Friday night that my head was spinning!
Saturday’s brunch at Jackson’s historical King Edward Hotel was breathtaking. The breakout sessions were very well thought out. The girls covered all of the bases – how to pick a wedding photographer (feel free to stop by – I’d be glad to go over it with anyone who will listen!), floral design, wine tasting, fashion advice, there was a great pearl and diamond bar, travel and destination weddings, and of course, event planning.
The event concluded with a fashion show featuring duds from all of the areas finest wedding shops. The tuxes, gowns, and dresses were incredible and OH BOY the headpieces were wonderful! Kristina Myers of Blush and Brush did a knockout job on the models makeup!
It was an incredible event! We are so proud of all of the local talent that was showcased.
We were so glad to be a part of it! Thanks Emily, Shanna, and Kendall!
